Underplowing/Root Pruning

Underplowing is a practice in which a U-shaped blade is passed under and along the sides of the plant, cutting a large percentage of the roots. A dense, compact root system that will transplant well and create a heavily branched top is the final product. These full plants—are beautiful plants.

Fall planting and root pruning allow time for plant roots to start growing before winter. On cooler nights, dew and rain reduce the amount of care a plant needs to get started.
