Description

Wild Bergamot is an Illinois native wildflower that is found in a variety of open areas. It is a wild type of Bee Balm. Clusters of lavender-pink flowers have a firework appearance, and bloom throughout the summer. These nectar-rich flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Button-like seedheads add winter interest, and are a good winter food source for birds. Light-green leaves have a minty scent to them. Wild bergamot can tolerate drought and clay soils once established.
