Description

Little Bluestem is an Illinois native found in prairies. It is an adaptable grass that can tolerate drought and clay soils once established. Silvery blue-green foliage turns russet-red in the fall. Purplish-bronze plumes appear late summer opening to fluffy, silvery seedheads (a good winter food source for birds). Little Bluestem is a great addition for a native garden or in a dry, sunny area. It is an important larval food source for many butterfly species.
