BLACKHAWKS BIG BLUESTEM
Description
This unassuming native offers a dramatic end-of-season splash in the sunny landscape. A warm season grass, late spring brings upright blades of dark green, but as August nights begin to cool, the show starts. Foliage deepens to purple and by late September, it is nearly black. A late-season, 3-part bloom, gives this plant its alias ‘Turkey Foot Grass’. Grows in average soils and its deep root system makes it drought tolerant once established. Rich, moist soils will cause foliage to flop.
