CHINKAPIN OAK
Description
This native oak has higher tolerance of alkaline soils and urban air pollution than other oak species, and makes a great street tree. Glossy green leaves have toothed margins, and turn yellow to bronze in the fall. Mature Chinkapin Oaks are quite impressive with their wide, strong branches. All native oaks are important larval food sources for many butterfly species, and attract migratory birds. This is a great oak that is underused.
