AMERICAN REDBUD
Description
A beautiful native tree that is a great choice for smaller yards or under large trees. Clusters of lavender-pink flowers cover the tree in spring before the leaves emerge. Heart-shaped leaves turn yellow in the fall. Flat reddish-brown pods remain on the tree after leaves fall, giving some winter interest. Interesting bark has a cinnamon color on mature specimens. It enjoys partial shade and some wind protection. Prefers alkaline soils, but is adaptable to acidic soils.
