Its small, mounding form is excellent for massing in shrub borders or use as a specimen to stand out against finer textured plants. Azaleas thrive in well-drained, rich, acidic soils, so fertilize after blooming. For plantings in open, exposed areas, consider applying a thick mulch layer around the root zone in winter.
