RED SPRITE WINTERBERRY
Description
Red Sprite is a compact, female cultivar of our native Winterberry. Bright green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Clusters of tiny green-white flowers bloom in early summer. Bright red berries stand out in the winter landscape. Hollies require a male pollinator for berries, and the cultivar ‘Red Sprite’ needs ‘Jim Dandy’ to produce fruit. One ‘Jim Dandy’ will pollinate 4-5 female hollies. Use in groupings or as a specimen. It cannot tolerate dry conditions. Does best in slightly acidic soils.
