FIRE STAR DIANTHUS
Description
Prefers full sun (bright light) in moist, well-drained soil. Dianthus will tolerate short periods of drought, but foliage and flowers will not be as lush if grown in hot, dry areas. Water regularly during dry spells or when temperatures are high. Divide in early spring every few years. The flowers are a dark red with a deeper crimson eye, a “saturated red bi-color.” Flowering is heaviest in early summer, but shearing the spent flowers will promote a fall rebloom. Use in borders or as an edging.
