LUCAS COLUMNAR HORNBEAM
Description
Perfect for narrow spaces, this tightly columnar hornbeam tolerates heavy soils and high pH levels. With larger leaves than most hornbeam cultivars and dense branching, it can be used for screening by planting in a row. A stately specimen where height is needed but space is limited. Fall color is a golden-yellow changing to brown with leaves holding through most of the winter. Smooth, dark grey bark is attractive in the landscape. Root growth is relatively close to the surface so mulching is important.
