TULIP TREE
Description
An excellent shade tree, Tulip tree has a rapid growth rate when young and develops an oval crown with age. Intolerant of drought, it prefers moist, slightly acidic soil and good mulching. Bright yellow-orange, tulip-like flowers bloom in late spring. Unusual palmate leaves turn golden-yellow in the fall. An adaptable tree that is great for large yards and parks. Tulip tree is a preferred food source for the caterpillars of Tiger Swallowtail butterflies.
