AMERICAN BEECH
Description
American Beech is a very distinctive, long lived tree. Thin, smooth, gray bark is retained as the tree ages. Its wide spreading canopy provides dense shade. Oval, dark green, glossy leaves have prominent parallel veins. Fall color is a golden bronze, copper color. Edible nuts ripen in fall and are loved especially by birds and mammals. This tree does have a shallow root system making it drought sensitive. Very slow growing – plant for future generations to enjoy.
