NORTHERN CATALPA
Description
The exotic-looking Northern Catalpa is native to Illinois and is very adaptable. It can tolerate wet and dry soils, drought, and clay once established. Large, heart-shaped leaves provide good shade, and turn yellow in the fall. Panicles of large, white flowers bloom in late spring and have a mild fragrance. The long seedpods turn brown and persist into the winter. This is a gorgeous tree for city streets and difficult areas.
